Crossley Heath Sixth Form’s dedicated staff will give you the highest level of support as you work towards your applications to the most selective of universities and courses.
Students aspiring to apply to Oxbridge or to study Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science follow a guided pathway from the autumn of Y12. This begins with recommended reading lists and support with identifying super-curricular activities.
Students will be encouraged to join our Debating Society and attend Critical Thinking sessions at lunchtimes.
We run practice sessions for particular entrance exams for which there is a general thinking skills paper; our departments also hold extra A* sessions to support students who are applying to specific subjects and who are aiming for the highest grades.
We encourage all students aspiring to medical schools to be involved in MedSoc and support students with preparation and practice for UCAT exams.
Our Scholars attend regular meetings to discuss and debate current affairs.
Applicants have 1:1 support in producing their personal statements, practice interviews with clinicians, specialist work experience and visiting speakers.
There are also a number of courses, essay competitions and online seminars which we encourage our high-achieving students to enter throughout the year.
Prospective Medicine applicants are supported with specialist work experience at CHFT hospitals; we also organise week-long placements for students intending to apply for Veterinary Science.
We visit the University of Cambridge in July or October. Our link colleges are Worcester College at Oxford and Selwyn College at Cambridge.
We are part of Selwyn College’s HEE (Higher Education Extension) programme offering after school masterclasses to explore supercurricular content beyond the A Level syllabus.
