We had the absolute honour of unveiling a plaque dedicated to Andrew Watson, the world’s first Black international footballer, in front of a wonderful crowd. And who better to unveil it than England’s first Black footballer, the fantastic Viv Anderson MBE?
We were also privileged to hear from an amazing line-up of speakers, including our very own former pupil and England rugby star Brian Moore, FC Halifax Town Manager Chris Millington, Richard McBrearty from the Scottish Football Museum, Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Virginia Lloyd, local councillor Colin Hutchinson, authors Bill Hern and Llew Walker, and journalist & campaigner Mark Metcalf.
A special moment came when some of our own footballing students shared how Andrew’s story continues to inspire them.
